Makeup makes women appear more competent

I love how the first Vogue issue which is released in the new year also includes the "Cosmetic Enhancement Guide 2012".

Here's some hilarious catch phrases from the guide:

  • "Breast reduction - Life Augmentation"
  • "You don't get a second chance to make a first impression"
  • "The nose serves as the axis of the face"
Regardless, I think what this issue most points out is that there is more to fashion than just the clothes you wear.  It also matters how you wear them (and that you choose clothes that suit your malformed breasts until you can get cosmetic surgery... just kidding).

Recently, a study "revealed" that makeup makes women appear more competent.  Apparently, wearing makeup improves how people perceive your likability, competence and trustworthiness.  I'm sure that the boys at work, the male partners and the cosmetic companies are cheering about this.

When I first started my job last year, I felt that it was a cold world where makeup and heels were more important than intelligence.  Now, I think that its a mixture of both, and in a such a ruthless corporate world, people intent on climbing the corporate ladder should use everything they have available to them to do that.

So, what do you think?  How important is it to wear makeup at work?

I've found my one true love....

According to this ad, which I have seen absolutely everywhere, my one true love is Tiffany & Co.  I'm glad advertising and materialism have picked out my one true love for me.  No need to search for "the one" any longer.

Balayage

When I was about fifteen, I decided it was a good idea to cut my hair really short and colour it purple.  It did not end well.  I've been growing my hair out since then, but I've come to a point where I was bored of my super long, plain, straight locks.

So, into the hairdresser I went, and out I came, three hours of my life gone and my hair four or so inches shorter with layering and balayage.

Balayage has been popular with celebs for a while now.  It's a hair colouring technique which allows highlights to grow out without getting obvious roots.  The highlights are painted on freehand.

It can be really good, or really bad.  I think my hair has turned out somewhere in between:

Not surprisingly, it looks a lot better when the hair is textured and wavy as opposed to dead straight. The biggest drawcard is that it's low maintenance and will grow out on its own, if you want it to.

Fashion's Night Out  - only five days away

I'm considering getting an iPhone just so I can use the FNO app which apparently boasts the following features:
  • "Sydney’s Pitt Street Mall will set the scene for a virtual treasure hunt hosted by Vogue, as an interactive shopping guide app leads shoppers through stores to unlock special offers and gifts on Fashion’s Night Out, Thursday 8 September."
  • "The free location-based Vogue VIP app will lead shoppers to nearby stores recommended by the Vogue team and highlight any special offers or gifts available. "
Secondly,  the Diane von Furstenburg FNO Official T-shirt is now available.... and also apparently sold out online.  :(

Orange, coral and red are in... all together at the same time.

Tangerine, coral, sorbet, terracotta and burnt orange are all over the shops at the moment.  It's a tricky colour combination, but retail designers are way too excited about this colour scheme to stop and ask themselves how we are going to incorporate this used-to-be colour faux pas into our long term wardrobes.

Portmans Sorbet Sateen Dress $129.95

Portmans Terracotta Stephanie Concave Midi Skirt $79.95

Cue Colour Block Dress $229.00

Forever New Bow Detail Skirt $69.99

This scheme reminds me of a Bollywood movie...  I feel like some designer stole this colour theme from a wedding.

Summer fashion is here (and so are my body issues..)

Me and summer are not friends.  I really love the cold, you can always add more clothes when it's cold, but there's a limit to how many clothes you can take off when it's hot.  Anyhow,  one thing I don't mind about it getting warmer is new season clothes.

Cue's new season has hit stores and my favourite picks are:

Sleeveless Shirt Dress $260.00

Shirt Dress $279.00
Not sure what it is I love about these sleeveless dresses.... maybe it's just the models have much skinnier arms than me.  I can imagine that these aren't going to look anywhere near as good when I get into the change room, but a girl can dream.

Seafolly Sophia
Bikinis are the next thing I love/hate about Summer.  When you go outside in Summer there are beautiful bodies everywhere to be compared to.  That's why finding a swimsuit that suits your body is one of the most important things about Summer.  Seafolly make great swimwear and you can buy the tops and bottoms separately in different sizes and colours to make the most of your body.

Forever New One Shoulder Flower Dress $199.99

How beautiful is this dress???  It reminds me of the Vera Wang Bridal collections  (Did I mention I'm totally obsessed with weddings... I could totally do this as a bridesmaids dress; and did I mention that I want a Lilac Vera Wang wedding gown?)

Vogue Fashion Night Out is coming!!!  It's on Thursday September the 8th from 5:30pm till 10pm in Pitt Street Mall.  Yay!
